But it does not solve a problem where a website, such as the BBC, not only requires the latest version of Flash Player, but still only works with Intel Macs. For users of PPC Macs there is this workaround: I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube for example) are fine. For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash. You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here: Now for the interesting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins.

This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care. Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it) Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored. I am using Flash 11.5.502.55 in TenFourFox and it works just fine, including the BBC news site and iPlayer.

I found this on Mac OS X Tiger PPC’s Facebook’s page and it seems to be working very well, at least the comments are very positive It’s basically Adobe Flash 11.5 for PowerPC! I know this steps away from our norm, but the policy of Mac PowerPC is to share all options for PowerPC, with a focus on the free and readily available!. This is not 100% secure, if you do try it – do so at your own risk. Popularity of iPad, mobile browsers and such forced web developers to phase out flash in favor of HTML5. That’s pretty nice tendency for all of us, PowerPC users. My Alu G4 PowerBook came a long way, from being “obsolete” to current label of being “able to get the job done”. Now I can watch YouTube content with standalone apps, tinker with online jukebox (html5 version of Grooveshark), use flash-free rendition of StreetView (QS view) or even use modern sites like Airbnb that used to rely heavily on flash back in the day. I don’t even have an excuse to buy MacBook anymore.
