Bubble Bobble Nostalgie can be played as a one or two-player multi-level game. In truth, the graphics aren't very impressive, and nothing much seems to have changed since the original came out in 1986!

The characters are cute, but the actual levels are very boring, and the music is headache-inducing Europop. I wasn't a big fan of the original, but Bubble Bobble Nostalgie does seem pretty faithful. There's nothing very wrong with the game, but it doesn't seem to have improved any on the original and I found it all too boring. The gameplay will be familiar to anyone who has played Taito's classic. You (and your friend in a 2-player game) blow bubbles to capture baddies, then quickly pop them.

When the bubbles are popped, fruit comes out for you to collect (and compete against your friend for points). The game is very simple in concept, but incredibly addictive due to spotless controls, quirky levels, bosses, and monsters, and overall fun. This 1999 version sports excellent anime-style graphics, innovative end-level bosses (the green dragon is one of my favorites), and a lot of variety in level designs and enemies to keep the game from being boring. If you like Bubble Bobble, you will definitely enjoy this obscure game that not many people outside Asia know about.
