In threads that are marked as spoilers: no need to use spoiler tags, but keep the submitter's level of knowledge about the VN in mind. Play it safe. Always use spoiler tags in threads that are not about one specific VN. The only exceptions are series (e.g. Ace Attorney), but only if OP makes it clear that discussing all games in a series without spoiler tags is okay. How to use spoiler tags: Hide spoilers like this: visible title of VN(#s 'hidden spoilery text') which shows up as Submitting a post. The fate of the partnership likely does hinge on how this first title does.

Would I buy Haruka if I had no interest in the title itself? Probably not! But it's not like Mangagamer is trying to hold the Rance series hostage. They're simply doing the best they can with the cards they've been dealt. Rance fans can support Haruka for what it is, support it in hopes of seeing Rance games, or hold off and hope that Mangagamer picked a viable title that will do well without their support. But it's not like Mangagamer is trying to hold the Rance series hostage.

They're simply doing the best they can with the cards they've been dealt. True, I don't exactly blame them. But the reason why won't matter if it all falls through and these Rance games that are nearly translated aren't released for a long time or ever. Hope that Mangagamer picked a viable title that will do well without their support. Spoilers: MG didn't pick Haruka. I'm pretty sure they aren't exactly pleased they couldn't get Rance or some other popular title instead. How does that make it not true?

People are annoyed because they went from having a near certain chance of being able to play untranslated Rance games in the near future (around a year) to possibly never being able to play them at all simply because Mangagamer licensed a title that nobody really cared about by the same people. Even if everything goes perfectly and the Rance titles get licensed, it will still be years before they come out.

Benvista photo magic crack. Hell, there's a not too unlikely chance of the licensing of the Rance games never happening and the translations being stuck in limbo never to be released. It's important to take the long view and look past the immediate horizon. A fan translation project gives you one game in English (maybe, if the fan translators don't give up halfway through). A partnership brings the promise of multiple games in English. And a partnership with a big player like Alicesoft opens up new possibilities for gameplay eroge translation. There's bigger things at stake than just the Rance series here. If the visual novel community is to continue to grow and the pace of translation to continue increasing, we can't rely on fan translations forever.

By supporting Japanese companies who officially release titles in English, we take one step closer to a day when English releases within a couple years of the Japanese release are commonplace, and when our favorite companies aren't forced to close their doors or stop making games because Japanese sales weren't enough to keep them afloat (RIP Overflow).
